OAA releases new practice bulletin

The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) has developed a new, extensive practice bulletin to support architects in their efforts to obtain fair and balanced contracts. Best Practices for Review of RFP Language and Supplementary Conditions to OAA 600 and Other Client-Architect Contracts provides detailed information about how to review request for proposal documents and contracts. END HERE, rest in link

Architects are frequently asked to sign client-created contracts for architectural services or a standard contract form, such as RAIC Document Six, but amended with client-generated supplemental conditions which can violate provincial regulations. It is always advisable that an architect seek both legal counsel and insurer advice before entering into a contract. This is even more important when the contract deviates from a standard form of agreement endorsed by the RAIC or a provincial or territorial regulator.
