The Voice of Indigeneity to Amplify Architecture

This webinar is part of the RAIC 2023 Conference on Architecture, now available to stream!

Topics:Sustainability / Climate, Advanced Technology / Building Science

Length:1 hour |What's Included:Video, Quiz, andCertificate of Completion

Architecture can empower indigenous and First Nations communities, and indeed all of us, giving rise to cities which are unique and powerful expressions of our civic identity. Indigenous cultures have relevance to everyone. They remind us of a time in our collective past when we were intrinsically more connected to Country, and they offer seminal lessons as we search for ways to solve the problems of our time.

Despite increasing awareness around cultural inclusivity, co-design, and the value it brings, we are not yet scratching the surface. In my presentation, we will look at the potential of co-design, consider the keys steps required to realize its potential, and showcase projects where co-design has elevated outcomes. We’ll discuss:

  • The potential of Co-Design to inform design holistically, resulting in better project outcomes
  • The process to achieve that potential
  • How we can navigate the poignant forces of the day, including cultural inclusivity, sustainability, and technology
  • What best practice looks like in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Australia
  • And what the future could look like…

Learning Objectives:

By the completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Define co-design and how we best engage in this process
  • Identify the multi layered conversation that builds from that capability of co-design
  • Identify and explain what best co-design practice looks like
  • Explain how we can synergize two world views to amplify outcomes in Architecture
